Press Release: Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Releases New TV Ad: ‘Promises’

New Ad Highlights Fletcher Delivering on Key 2018 Promise to Pass Legislation to Lower Prescription Drugs Costs

Houston, TX—Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released a new television ad: ‘Promises,’ highlighting Fletcher’s success delivering on a key 2018 promise to address the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs. Fletcher worked in Congress to pass legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs by giving Medicare the ability to negotiate the price of prescription drugs. ‘Promises’ will run on Houston broadcast and cable stations starting today.

“Two years ago, I promised to work to lower health care costs, explaining that one way to do so was to allow Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs. I’m proud to say we passed a bill in the House to do exactly that,” Congresswoman Fletcher said. “People across our community have shared their stories with me about the rising cost of prescription drug prices, and they need a real solution to address this problem. Congress can help, and I’ll keep fighting until this bill becomes a law.”

In Congress, Fletcher has been steadfast in fulfilling her commitment to improve and expand health care for Texans, to protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, and to lower the costs of health care. In 2019, Fletcher voted in favor of H.R.3, the Elijah Cummings Lower Prescription Drug Costs Now Act, which gives Medicare the ability to negotiate the price of prescription drugs—a proposal of Fletcher’s 2018 campaign—and to provide dental and vision benefits to Medicare recipients.

Fletcher has also voted for legislation to protect people with pre-existing conditions from losing coverage and to expand health care coverage and encourage states like Texas that have not expanded Medicaid to do so.

Fletcher serves on the New Democrat Coalition’s Health Care Task Force, which develops and advances policies to improve our health care system.

While Fletcher has worked in Congress for the past two years to build upon and improve the Affordable Care Act, her Republican opponent’s promise to “fully repeal” the ACA is out of step with the needs of the residents in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District.
