Houston, TX—Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s Republican opponent Wesley Hunt released a TV ad falsely claiming that Fletcher won’t protect Houston’s energy jobs. The opposite is true. Congresswoman Fletcher’s record fighting for Houston’s energy jobs is well documented. She has worked with both parties to implement energy policies that reflect the views of energy leaders here and she has opposed proposals from Democrats and Republicans that would hurt Houston’s energy economy.
“Houstonians deserve better than candidates who lie to them about the issues that matter to our community, and I am disappointed that Wesley Hunt has taken that route,” Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher said. “I am proud of my record representing Houston and supporting our energy economy—bringing my unique perspective from more than a decade as a lawyer representing energy companies and the people who work there to the halls of Congress. In Congress, I have partnered with Houston’s energy leaders to advocate for common-sense policy and to ensure that Houston remains the energy capital of the world.”
Fletcher Campaign Manager Molly Banta released the following statement: “Wesley Hunt’s misleading ad is full of lies he wishes were true. Lizzie Fletcher’s record is clear and well documented: she has prioritized and fought for Houston’s energy jobs, even when it means standing up to her own party. Wesley Hunt has demonstrated once again he plans to run a negative misinformation campaign.”
